Cinco de Mayo
Bet you never heard of El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). That's what they call May 5th in Puebla, Mexico. The Battle of Puebla was an unexpected victory for the Mexicans against the French in 1862. Now, in the US, we celebrate Mexican heritage and pride on Cinco de Mayo.
Mother's Day
Want to surprise your mom? We have some fun ideas.
  • Wake her up early with "breakfast" in bed...or a food fight! She'll love cleaning up after it, too.
  • Make her a macaroni necklace! She sure loved that when you were four.
  • Take her out to a "fancy" restaurant, preferably one where the waiters clap and sing Happy, Happy Birthday at the top of their lungs. The best part is when they bring you a sundae and you dig in, not noticing the dirty looks from your mom.
  • Order a caricature!*** Don't forget to tell the artist to emphasize her crooked front tooth, double chin, and huge mole.
Note: Results may vary.
***Caricatures do make great gifts for people with good senses of humor.

Memorial Day

Here are some facts you probably didn't know about Memorial Day:
  • It was originally called Decoration Day, because people would decorate graves of soldiers who died in the war
  • Decoration Day was first held on May 30, 1868, at the suggestion of General John A. Logan, because there was no battle that day
  • By 1971, Memorial Day became a federal holiday
  • John McCrae's In Flanders Fields poem began the tradition of wearing poppies
  • In 2000, a minute of silence at 3:00 pm on Memorial Day became law.flag
  • You have to be quiet at 3:00, but the rest of the day can be a party celebrating the USA's freedom!!! Call 1-800-923-8669 or email us right away.
Next time you or a friend needs some entertainment for any kind of event, you know who to call.
