Meet Justin G, August's Featured Entertainer!

1. Describe the type of entertainment you provide.

Since 1994, I have been enjoying my career as a professional caricaturist drawing tens of thousands of faces in various venues all across the country. I basically get paid to draw funny pictures of people, which is essentially what I was doing for free in elementary school. As long as I can remember, people have been watching me draw. I really can't think of a better or more fun job! I live in Orange County, CA, and I serve most of Southern California, including Los Angeles and San Diego.

2. When and how did you get into this business?

My career officially started in May 1994 when I graduated from college and was hired to draw caricatures at Six Flags over Texas in Arlington, TX. That was 21 years ago, and I still remember the words of one of the artists who trained me: "You won't really know anything about caricature until you've drawn 1,000 faces." So I started drawing and never looked back. I went on to become a manager and trainer at Six Flags over Georgia and to own and operate my own caricature stands in Georgia, Florida and California. And all along the way I worked every kind of event imaginable.

3. What are the most memorable events you have ever worked at?

I've worked small events in people's garages and I've worked the Super Bowl for the NFL. I've drawn dogs at pet stores and costumed people at science fiction conventions. I've drawn at a haunted house and at footballer Deion Sander's birthday party. Apparently Mikhail Gorbachev watched me draw once, but I didn't notice.  I've met a lot of regular folks and a few celebrities (George Takei once did a wonderful critique of my Star Trek examples before autographing the one I did of him). I've had some pretty strange requests along the way: the couple who wanted to be drawn as tacos, the guy who wanted to look like the retro Mountain Dew hillbilly logo, the fellow who insisted I call him The Texas Kid and refer to him in the third person while drawing him, etc. I was hired to draw on the set of the Warner Bros TV show 'Two and a Half Men' right there in the 'living room'. And I've drawn while being surrounded by Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders (and still managed to concentrate). But the most memorable event I ever worked was a college wellness fair where, upon my arrival, I was told I had to draw each person as either a fruit or a vegetable. After some fast thinking I proceeded to make people into strawberries and broccoli and bananas, etc. Yeah, it was as weird as it sounds.

4. What is one thing you'd like everyone to know about you?

That I love what I do and that I'm passionate about it, even when I have to draw people as fruits or vegetables. Every face is exciting for me, and I feel truly fortunate and honored to be able to do what I love as a career. I enjoy interacting with people and making them laugh with my words and my drawings.

About Faces is a Hit!

It was a pleasure working with the Henna Artist [Tracy P]. Students loved the event and we are glad we could provide it for such a great value. We are definitely going to consider About Faces for future programs. Thank you for the excellent service!
