John S - New York Caricature Artists

John S

John has been a Professional Cartoonist since 1967. He has such periodicals as Go Magazine, R&B World, Marvel Comics "Crazy Magazine," where his Crazy's Crazies featured in every magazine for 3 years, plus other features. He has had a long running comic strip entitled "Tyrannosaurus Sex" in Playboy, Domestic, and Foreign editions along with The Best of Playboy periodical and Gag Cartoons printed in Saturday Evening Post and the Best Of Saturday Evening Post.

John also has two cartoon books published. Video Madness ViaPinnacle Books sold over 25,000 copies and 101 Uses for a Dead Cube via Tor Publishing, which was a runaway Best Seller with over 135,000 copies and a question on the 80's Trivial Pursuit. He also created the Summer Stock Theatre posters for Gateways Playhouse for a number of years.

John's unique approach to caricatures consists of drawing on clear 8 1/2"x11" transparencies, a good likeness, normal sized body, and theme that each person can choose. The finished art is placed into a white matte, with a colorful design within the matte to make the portrait pop right off the page!

John's first trial by fire as a caricaturist was many, many years ago. He was invited to draw at a Bar Mitzvah, his first gig. He set up his easel and at that very moment the cameras began to flash. The mob of video cameras were on him as he drew the Bar Mitzvah boy. Then a young heckler began, "It doesn't look like him, It doesn't look like him!" Then there was a pause and he stopped and said "Hey, it looks just like him!"

At that very moment, John knew he could do caricatures at parties.
